Alliance/AFT teacher Raul Avial speaks about STAAR Testing at the press conference.

On Monday of the 2021 Spring Break for Dallas ISD and surrounding school districts, union folks busied themselves with the Texas AFT Day of Action. Alliance/AFT members and partners from the Associate Member Programs in the Dallas Area combined forces uplifting the actions. It was exciting to have Southwest Dallas (Cedar Hill ISD, DeSoto ISD, Duncanville ISD, and Lancaster ISD) and Texas United (Allen ISD, Frisco ISD, Garland ISD, Plano ISD, and Richardson ISD) participating in the long car caravan and press conference. The messages centered around Health and Safety, STAAR Testing, and adequate funding.

Excitement rose to see the decorated vehicles circle the Region 10 Service Center in Richardson while honking their horns to spread the word about Texas Public Schools. Our actions let legislators know how important it is to “Fund our Future”! The press conference had media outlets present to cover the actions. This led to making our voices loud and clear.

Thanks to all who shared in this great experience! This pandemic has been difficult and exhausting. But it didn’t keep us from showing our strength and relaying our messages. Rather than traveling to Austin, we were effective here at home! Keep sending your thoughts to our representatives and senators. They’re still in session and need to hear from us. Employees and students are worth it!
